There are other things that you may like to provide for your rat for times when it is out of the cage. The most common "toy" that is available is a Rat Ball in which you can place the rat so that it can run around the house. Many rats seem to enjoy them but not all do and any rat in a ball should still be supervised to avoid accidents. Any ball should be secure when closed and large enough for the rat to move around comfortably. Time in a rat ball should be limited to short periods and if the rat seems at all unhappy it should be removed immediately.

There also harnesses and leashes for rats, designed to allow the rat to walk and run on the floor whilst ensuring that it cannot run away.
